Delicious fare and a book launch too

Posted by Violet Nesdoly on September 13, 2012

Our September Blue Moon Reading (Monday, September 10th) had everyone drooling over poems about food. We heard about milk and cream and other tempting farm fare, blueberries and cooking Sunday dinner, aboriginal foods and customs, Caribbean beans and, of course, poems on other subjects, which gave us food for thought.

Especially moving was Surjeet Kalsey’s  poem about Indian women farm workers who get up early to work on the farms that grow food for our markets, only to come home exhausted but faced with the task of preparing food for their families.

After the refreshment break, Violet Nesdoly launched her novel Destiny’s Hands, describing the Bible-time setting, explaining what inspired her to write about the character she chose, and reading excerpts.

Thanks to all who came out to make the evening a success!

Now mark your calendars for our last public event of 2012.

On October 15th we will be launching the club’s newest anthology, Picking Flowers: Poems of Thurlow Gowan with Tributes and Poems by Friends (currently in production).
