MSA Poets Potpourri Society

A Feast for Body and Soul

Posted by Violet Nesdoly on November 25, 2010

Thirteen members and guests of the MSA Poets Potpourri Society gathered at the Kariton Gallery in Abbotsford on Wednesday, November 24 for an annual potluck to celebrate Christmas and several November birthdays.

President Brayden Sawatzky began the meal by reading his poem “Prayer for the Potluck”

The food in all its variety (juice, eggnog, and a plate of pakoora with dipping sauce for starters with the main course of Caesar salad, turkey, ham, gravy, yams, potatoes, cranberry sauce, buns and butter, and for dessert fruit, chocolate treats — and I’m sure I’ve missed more than one thing!) was plentiful and delicious.

Rita’s memories of Christmas in Mexico soon had everyone sharing scenes from Christmases past. Honorary member Thurlow Gowan, though absent, was present in Brayden’s reading of Thurlow’s poem “The Christmas Concert at Prairie Red Schoolhouse” from the newly released book Trail of Light. Alvin shared his annual Christmas newsletter poem, and Violet read a recently published poem. The evening wrapped up with one last trip to the buffet table for for any who still had room for a little more dessert.
